FluteSounds 2024 in Ieper, Belgium in Nov. 2024

On 19 & 20 Npvember 2024 Wil Offermans was invited to present FluteSoundsd 2024, an annual flute event by Dé Academie, Ieper and the Kunstacademie Poperinge, Belgium. Wil Offermans worked on 9 of his compositions with over hundred students and teachers. The final concert took place at the Theaterzaal of Het Perron in Ieper, Belgium and included: (1) Luna y Sierra, (2) Voices of Nagasaki, The Conductor. (4) Kojo-no-Tsuki (Made in Japan), (5) Waltz of the Wolves, (6) Thumpy Impro, (7) Kurokami Love (Made in Japan), (8) Dance with Me and (9) Jungle Dance. Video by the Duo Ueda Offermans in Japan

Here are two new YouTube videos of the Duo Ueda Offermans with Japanese biwa-player Junko Ueda, from their Oct. 2024 Japan-tour. The first video is of their work Murasaki-no-Ue from the famous Japanese 11th century literature Genji Monogatari (The tale of Genji) recorded live at the Buddhist temple Kôjuku-ji, Nagasaki, Japan on October 25th. The lyric is based on the Genji-Monogatari describing about aristocrat Hikaru Genji’s romantic love stories. The second video is Heike Monogatari (The battle of Dan-no-Ura), a composition-arrangement by the duo, recorded live at the Heishin-do (the former Kazama family residence), Tsuruoka-shi, Yamagata, Japan on October 18th.

Tsuru-no-Sugomori Video by Wil Offermans in Japan

A new YouTube video of Wil Offermans performing his flute arrangement of the traditional Japanese shakuhachi piece Tsuru-no-Sugomori (鶴の巣籠り) at a concert in Heishin-do (the former Kazama family residence and an important cultural property of Japan) in Tsuruoka-city, Yamagata, Japan on 18 October 2024. Production was done by Tsuruoka Research Centre of Sustainable Society. This flute arrangement by Wil Offermans intensely integrates extended flute techniques, such as circular breathing, wind tones and bamboo tones, while concentrating on a most fluid and relaxed breathing. He made this arrangement with the support of shakuhachi master Katsuya Yokoyama. See comprehensive information on extended flute techniques at Offermans' website For the Contemporary Flutist Online. This flute-arrangement of Tsuru-no-Sugomori has been published by music publisher Zimmermann, Germany and is available via your local music dealer or get it online at Schott Music.

  • 9 October 2024, 18:00-21:00: workshop for Yamanashi flutists in preparation for the 13 Oct. concert. Location at the Kofu library in front of Kofu station, Yamanashi, Japan.
  • 13 October 2024, 14:30-16:30: concert with Yamanashi flutists (organised by Taku Suzuki) and Junko Ueda (biwa & voice) at Seisen-ryo Main Hall, Kiyosato - Hokuto, Yamanashi, Japan. Performance includes: Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Danno-Ura, Nasori, Dance with Me, Jungle Dance and Waltz of the Wolves a.o.

Flute Day Mallorca, Spain in May 2024

On 12 May 2024 Wil Offermans presented a Flute Day event for the 5. Trobada des Flautes at the Escola Municipal de Música de Santanyí in Mallorca, Spain. He presented workshops for the 82 registered flute-students from all over Mallorca and the flute-teachers Cati Roig, Joana Moragues, Laura Bibiloni, Toni Lacasa, Eva Reina and Marta Córdoba. They worked on his pieces, which were presented in a most special concert in the street of Santanyí village. Wil Offermans at Flöte!2.0 in Mönchengladbach, Germany

The flute ensemble piece Jungle Dance by Wil Offermans has been on the program of the flute project Flöte!2.0 of this year. This flute event with over 100 participants is a fantastic collaboration between the music schools of Mönchengladbach, Düsseldorf and Moers. Besides many rehearsals it included this year a masterclass day with Wil Offermans on April 27, where he worked extensively on Jungle Dance, as well as circular breathing and Luna y Sierra a.o. Wil Offermans was also present at the first concert on May 1, where he conducted Jungle Dance and played the solo part of Luna y Sierra together with the participants. Japan Tour in December 2023

In the post-corona/covid time, it was great that Wil Offermans could finally return to his beloved Japan to present his concert and workshop. Here is an overview of this short tour. More concert in Japan are expected for 2024.

• Peace Concert in Tsuruoka, Japan on December 1: Wil Offermans played a solo concert "X'mas Peace Concert" at the Tsuruoka Art Forum in Tsuruoka, Yamagata prefecture. On the program where his pieces: Tsuru-no-Sugomori; some compositions from 'Made in Japan' (Akatombo; Yume-Kaze; Kojo-no-Tsuki and Kurokami Love), Luna y Sierra (together with Shinichi Kusajima-san on didgeridoo), Thumpy and the Japanese song Yuki-no-Furumachi-o. The concert was organised by Tsuruoka Sustainable Society Research Centre.

• Flute Workshop in Nirasaki, Yamanashi, Japan on December 3: Wil Offermans presented a flute workshop for Japanese flutists working on some improvisation, flute-techniques and his pieces Dance with Me and Luna y Sierra. The workshop was organised by Taku Suzuki-san and took place in the Hokuto-shi Akeno Hall, a most wonderful location just north of the famous Fuji mountain.

Flute Day Warendorf, Germany in Oct 2023

Great news is that the first Flute Day with Wil Offermans in the post-covid period could took place. On 28 October 2023 Wil presented his project for the Schule für Musik Warendorf in Warendorf (North Rhine-Westphalia), Germany. The participants where the students of the flute teachers Amelia Deuchert-Kappe, Michaela Heitkamp, Tatjana Konegen, Anja Loddenkemper, Claudia Mertens, Uta Rathmer-Schumacher and Daniel Tillkorn. They worked on For the Younger Flutist, Made in Japan, Thumpy, Luna y Sierra, ethnic flutes story and Jungle Dance. All these pieces where presented in the final concert. New Videos on YouTube / FaceBook

While we are in the middle of a hot summer, we have noticed that various nice videos of compositions by Wil Offermans have appeared on YouTube and FaceBook recently. On FaceBook there is one quite special video of Dance with Me, which I like to bring to your attention. In this Dance with Me performance the 3 flutists are dancing together with an additional group of 6 dancers. The video is from the Conservatoire de Musique Redon, France by flute-students of Virginie Zanni. Very well down. See the video here below or at their FaceBook page.

Duo Ueda Offermans concert Rietberg Museum, Zurich, Switzerland

On the 3 November 2021, Duo Ueda Offermans performs at Rietberg Museum in Zurich on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Japanese medieval narrations depicted in the arts’, with subtitling by musicologist Mr. Heinz-Dieter Reese. The program included: Atsumori, Dan-no-Ura arranged for biwa/voice and flute, Yoshitsune, and Murasaki-no-Ue from Tale of Genji (composed by Junko Ueda for biwa, voice and flute). It is the first concert by Wil Offermans after his recovery. See more info at the Rietberg Museum, Zurich.
