Japan Tour in December 2023

In the post-corona/covid time, it was great that Wil Offermans could finally return to his beloved Japan to present his concert and workshop. Here is an overview of this short tour. More concert in Japan are expected for 2024.

• Peace Concert in Tsuruoka, Japan on December 1: Wil Offermans played a solo concert "X'mas Peace Concert" at the Tsuruoka Art Forum in Tsuruoka, Yamagata prefecture. On the program where his pieces: Tsuru-no-Sugomori; some compositions from 'Made in Japan' (Akatombo; Yume-Kaze; Kojo-no-Tsuki and Kurokami Love), Luna y Sierra (together with Shinichi Kusajima-san on didgeridoo), Thumpy and the Japanese song Yuki-no-Furumachi-o. The concert was organised by Tsuruoka Sustainable Society Research Centre.

• Flute Workshop in Nirasaki, Yamanashi, Japan on December 3: Wil Offermans presented a flute workshop for Japanese flutists working on some improvisation, flute-techniques and his pieces Dance with Me and Luna y Sierra. The workshop was organised by Taku Suzuki-san and took place in the Hokuto-shi Akeno Hall, a most wonderful location just north of the famous Fuji mountain.

Duo Ueda Offermans concert Rietberg Museum, Zurich, Switzerland

On the 3 November 2021, Duo Ueda Offermans performs at Rietberg Museum in Zurich on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Japanese medieval narrations depicted in the arts’, with subtitling by musicologist Mr. Heinz-Dieter Reese. The program included: Atsumori, Dan-no-Ura arranged for biwa/voice and flute, Yoshitsune, and Murasaki-no-Ue from Tale of Genji (composed by Junko Ueda for biwa, voice and flute). It is the first concert by Wil Offermans after his recovery. See more info at the Rietberg Museum, Zurich.

Flute Day Montabaur, Germany in June 2019

On 25 June 2019 Wil Offermans presented a flute event at the Landesmusikgymnasium Rheinland-Pfalz (web.musikgymnasium.de) in the wonderful city of Montabaur in Germany, just north of Frankfurt. From the morning until dinner time Wil Offermans worked with about 30 students. The students, guided by their flute-teachers Wolfgang Wendel and Karoline Schaeferdiek, had prepared intensively during the year many of Offermans compositions, mostly ensemble works but also solo and duo compositions (click the image on the right to see the photo gallery). Later in the evening they together performed a nearly 90 minutes concerts with on the program:

Flute Ensemble Day in Biberach, Germany

On 21 October 2017, Wil Offermans presented a Flute Ensemble Day at the Musikschule of Biberach in Germany. During the day, he worked with the flutists on various subjects and pieces, including Eternal Winds and Voices of Nagasaki. The presentation concert started at 18:00 at the Bruno-Frey-Musikschule, Biberach. Click the image to see the photo gallery of the event.

Concert & Workshops with Zagreb Flute Ensemble in Zagreb

From 28th April until 1st May 2017, Wil Offermans has been in Zagreb to work with the Zagreb Flute Ensemble on various of his pieces (Itsuki-no-Komori-Uta, Bamburia and Dance with Me). Other collaborators include the Academy of Music Zagreb and the University of Zagreb. Offermans also presented various classes, including a class on circular breathing and a Thumpy class for children and teachers. Together they finished the project with a concert on April 30th at 18:00 in the KD Vatroslav Lisinski Hall, Zagreb, which was recorded by the Croatian Radio. 'Forbidden Valley' by Quintessenz at Flute Festival Munich

The new composition Forbidden Valley (3 flutes; alto; bass flute) by Wil Offermans has been premiered by the flute ensemble Quintessenz at the DGfF Flute Festival 2017 on 11th March at the evening concert in the main hall of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. This spring Forbidden Valley will be published by Musikverlag Zimmermann (for: 3 flutes, alto, bass flute; as well as a low flutes quintet: bass flute, bass flute F, contrabass flute, contrabass flute F and double contrabass flute). 13th Nov. 2016 a Flute Day at the Music School Borken, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany: Flute a with Wil Offermans for flute students of the music schools of Borken, Coesfeld, Ahaus and Bocholt.   • 5th Nov. 2016: Music school Möhlin, Aargau, Switzerland: Flute Day with Wil Offermans, which includes ensemble playing, Thumpy flute, ethnic flutes story, final concert with all participants.

'Flute Day' 2-days in Eivissa-Ibiza, Spain

On March 7th and 8th 2015, Wil Offermans has been in Eivissa (Ibiza) to present his Flute Day at the '1ª Trobada de Flauta d'Eivissa i Formentera' for flute-students from the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. Organizing institutions were Conservatori Profesional de Música i Dansa d'Eivissa i Formentera and the Govern de les Illes Balears (Conselleria d'Educacio, Cultura i Universitats). The final presentation concert on Sunday 8th March at the Conservatorio Profesional in Ibiza included Offermans' pieces like: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Jungle Dance and more. 'Flute Day' (3-days) in Saint Omer & Calais, France

This February 6th, 7th and 8th, Wil Offermans was in the Saint Omer and Calais area in northern France, for three days of flute events at various locations. Organizing institutions included the La Comédie de L'Aa, Conservatoire á Rayonnement Départemental Musique, Saint Omer, Conservatoire de Calais, L'École Notre Dame Griffon. The final presentation concert was on Sunday 8th Febr. at 16:00 in Salle Emile Zola, Wizernes/Saint Omer and included Offermans' pieces like: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Honami, Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Bamburia, Itsuki-no-Komoriuta and Dance with Me.

Concert Tour Japan Autumn 2014

From November 12th until 28th Wil Offermans was on tour in Japan with Junko Ueda (voice, satsuma-biwa). Below are some videos of this tour. Among their activities were:

  • November 14th: a most unique concert by Duo Ueda Offermans with singing monks of the Obaku-shu sect at the occasion of '360 years arrival of Ingen' at the Kofukuji Temple Nagasaki.
  • November 23rd: 'Flute Special Live, Japan vs Holland' a duo concert with Kazushi Saito (first flute Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra), Otsuka Greco Live House, Tokyo
  • November 24th: Flute classes at Sankyo, Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

World-premiere "Eternal Winds" • 585 flutists Mega Orchestra

On 9th Nov. 2014 the world premiere of Eternal Winds by Wil Offermans was performed by a mega-orchestra of 585 flutists - a mixture of orchestral flutists, professionals, flute-students, amateurs and children - in a sold-out TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht (Holland) at the Netherlands Flute Academy 5th anniversary concert (directed by Emily Beynon, 1st flutist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam). Offermans conducted the work himself. Other performers in this concert includes: flutist Emily Beynon, soprano Roberta Alexander, all round musician and flutist Thijs van Leer, percussionist Niels van Hoorn and trumpet player Eric Vloeimans.
