Upcoming Flute Events Wil Offermans in Japan

  • 9 October 2024, 18:00-21:00: workshop for Yamanashi flutists in preparation for the 13 Oct. concert. Location at the Kofu library in front of Kofu station, Yamanashi, Japan.
  • 13 October 2024, 14:30-16:30: concert with Yamanashi flutists (organised by Taku Suzuki) and Junko Ueda (biwa & voice) at Seisen-ryo Main Hall, Kiyosato - Hokuto, Yamanashi, Japan. Performance includes: Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Danno-Ura, Nasori, Dance with Me, Jungle Dance and Waltz of the Wolves a.o.
  • 18 October 2024: Duo Ueda Offermans concert at Heishin-do (Former Kazama family residence, Important cultural property of Japan), Tsuruoka, Yamagata, Japan.
  • 25 October 2024, 18:30: Concert Wil Offermans, Junko Ueda and shomyo chant by Obaku-shu monks celebrating the 370 years anniversary of Ingen at Kofuku-ji Temple in Nagasaki, Japan.

Japan Tour in December 2023

In the post-corona/covid time, it was great that Wil Offermans could finally return to his beloved Japan to present his concert and workshop. Here is an overview of this short tour. More concert in Japan are expected for 2024.

• Peace Concert in Tsuruoka, Japan on December 1: Wil Offermans played a solo concert "X'mas Peace Concert" at the Tsuruoka Art Forum in Tsuruoka, Yamagata prefecture. On the program where his pieces: Tsuru-no-Sugomori; some compositions from 'Made in Japan' (Akatombo; Yume-Kaze; Kojo-no-Tsuki and Kurokami Love), Luna y Sierra (together with Shinichi Kusajima-san on didgeridoo), Thumpy and the Japanese song Yuki-no-Furumachi-o. The concert was organised by Tsuruoka Sustainable Society Research Centre.

• Flute Workshop in Nirasaki, Yamanashi, Japan on December 3: Wil Offermans presented a flute workshop for Japanese flutists working on some improvisation, flute-techniques and his pieces Dance with Me and Luna y Sierra. The workshop was organised by Taku Suzuki-san and took place in the Hokuto-shi Akeno Hall, a most wonderful location just north of the famous Fuji mountain.

Concert Tour Japan Autumn 2014

• Concert | Workshop | Duo Ueda Offermans | Japan

From November 12th until 28th Wil Offermans was on tour in Japan with Junko Ueda (voice, satsuma-biwa). Below are some videos of this tour. Among their activities were:

  • November 14th: a most unique concert by Duo Ueda Offermans with singing monks of the Obaku-shu sect at the occasion of '360 years arrival of Ingen' at the Kofukuji Temple Nagasaki.
  • November 23rd: 'Flute Special Live, Japan vs Holland' a duo concert with Kazushi Saito (first flute Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra), Otsuka Greco Live House, Tokyo
  • November 24th: Flute classes at Sankyo, Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

Leading Japanese flute-magazine The Flute has the cover story of the July 2014 edition (vol.136) dedicated to Wil Offermans. In the interview Offermans talks about his ideas concerning extended techniques and more. The magazine also features an article on the Thumpy flute and other educational flute ideas. Japan Xmas Tour 2011

During the final weeks of 2011 Wil Offermans will be touring in Japan for several events. In the concerts of Dec. 23rd and 24th Flute Ensemble Piacere will be guest to perform with Wil Offermans the first official performance of his new flute ensemble pieces Bamburia and Forbidden Valley (Bfl, Bfl in F, Contra-Bfl, CBfl in F, Double CBfl). The score of Bamburia will be published very soon by Zimmermann, Frankfurt (it will be announced at this site). Forbidden Valley has been commissioned by Kotato Flutes.

  • 19 Dec. 18:30-21:30: Wil Offermans Flute Fitness Ensemble Workshop, SpaceDo (Musical Instrument Shop DAC) JR-Shin-Ôkubo.
  • 22 Dec. 14:00: concert Duo Ueda Offermans at Kurihashi Wellfare House Kulimu, Saitama
  • 23 Dec. 14:30: concert Duo Ueda Offermans at Kuki-shi Culture Centre Hall, Saitama
  • 24 Dec. 14:30: concert Duo Ueda Offermans at Miyoshi Culture Centre Hall Copisu, Saitama

Japan Spring 2011 Tour & New compositions

Another Japan Tour took place in May 2011 with various events, including:

  • May 15: Obaku-shu concert Duo Ueda Offermans with various monks of Obaku-shu sect, celebrating 350 years of Obaku-shu in Japan at Kyushu National Museum, Fukuoka. New composition: “Ingen’s Dream”.
  • May 19: Obaku-shu concert by Duo Ueda Offermans with various monks of Obaku-shu sect, celebrating 350 years of Obaku-shu in Japan at Kofuku-ji temple, Nagasaki.
  • May 22: concert Wil Offermans and the Bamboo Orchestra Nakagawa at Mirika Roden Concert Hall, Fukuoka. Commissioned a new composition by Offermans titled Bamburia as well as special arrangements of his works Jungle Dance and Dance with Me.
  • May 28: Flute Fitness workshop Tokyo, flute workshop by Wil Offermans from 10:00-17:00 at My Space Aspia hall, Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Flute Day at music school Barneveld, Netherlands

Here are some YouTube videos of the presentation concert of the Flute Day by Wil Offermans for the Music School Barneveld (Muziekschool Barneveld), Holland on 12th March 2011. The event took place at the Schaffelaar Theatre, Barneveld.

  1. Dance with Me is a hip hop inspired dance music composition for flute solo or flute ensemble.
  2. Next is Thumpy Song and improvisation for the Thumpy flute.
  3. The final video is of Kôjô-no-Tsuki, a karaoke version of this famous Japanese song.
