Video by the Duo Ueda Offermans in Japan

Here are two new YouTube videos of the Duo Ueda Offermans with Japanese biwa-player Junko Ueda, from their Oct. 2024 Japan-tour. The first video is of their work Murasaki-no-Ue from the famous Japanese 11th century literature Genji Monogatari (The tale of Genji) recorded live at the Buddhist temple Kôjuku-ji, Nagasaki, Japan on October 25th. The lyric is based on the Genji-Monogatari describing about aristocrat Hikaru Genji’s romantic love stories. The second video is Heike Monogatari (The battle of Dan-no-Ura), a composition-arrangement by the duo, recorded live at the Heishin-do (the former Kazama family residence), Tsuruoka-shi, Yamagata, Japan on October 18th.

Tsuru-no-Sugomori Video by Wil Offermans in Japan

A new YouTube video of Wil Offermans performing his flute arrangement of the traditional Japanese shakuhachi piece Tsuru-no-Sugomori (鶴の巣籠り) at a concert in Heishin-do (the former Kazama family residence and an important cultural property of Japan) in Tsuruoka-city, Yamagata, Japan on 18 October 2024. Production was done by Tsuruoka Research Centre of Sustainable Society. This flute arrangement by Wil Offermans intensely integrates extended flute techniques, such as circular breathing, wind tones and bamboo tones, while concentrating on a most fluid and relaxed breathing. He made this arrangement with the support of shakuhachi master Katsuya Yokoyama. See comprehensive information on extended flute techniques at Offermans' website For the Contemporary Flutist Online.
